Edward Cherry

Edward died in 1838 in Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire and was buried on the 31st of January in Holy Trinity in Hull.

On the 16th of December 1815 Edward and Sarah baptised their first child Edward in Holy Trinity.

Three years later they had another son, James in 1818 who they baptised in Holy Trinity on the 22nd of January.

On the 28th of February 1823 Sarah gave birth to George Harpur, who they christened a month later on the 26th of March also in Holy Trinity.

Edward married Sarah.

Children from this marriage were:

i.    Edward Cherry – (1815 - )

ii.   James Cherry – (1818 - )

iii.  George Harpur Cherry – (28/2/1823 – 6/11/1897)

Possible areas for research;

There is an Edward Cherry who married Sarah Downs on the 8th of February 1815 in St. Mary in York.  He was aged 37 at the time making his date of birth 1778.  Sarah was 30 making her date of birth 1785.

The marriage would be consistent with the birth of their first child Edward.

On the 1881 census there is a James Cherry who is unmarried and a Magistrate Barrister at Law living with his niece Adelaide A Harpour who is also single aged 42 who was born in Castle Town on the Isle of Man.  They are living in Westerfield in Suffolk.  At the home James employs a coachman, cook and two domestic servants.

Adelaide Anne Harpour is the daughter of William Conway Harpour (1782 – 10/9/1859) and Elizabeth Cherry (1802 – May 1882).  William and Elizabeth married on the 2nd of August 1819 in Holy Trinity in Hull.

William Conway Harpour is possibly where George Harpur got his middle name from.
